We looked at the 10 best **Hubstaff alternatives** for tracking employee hours and productivity in 2026. **TimeCamp**, **Traqq**, and **DeskTime** offer different approaches to [time tracking](https://www.timecamp.com/)
. **Insightful** and **ActivTrak** focus on workforce analytics, while **Teramind** adds security monitoring. **Time Doctor** and **Monitask** cover employee [activity monitoring](https://www.timecamp.com/time-tracking/activity-monitoring/)
, and **Connecteam** and **Jibble** offer scheduling and attendance tools for field teams.

| Hubstaff Alternatives 2026 Shortlist We looked at these 10 Hubstaff competitors and compared their features, prices, and limitations for remote, hybrid, and field teams. The tools are in no particular order. TimeCamp: billable time, invoicing and project profitability, with activity tracking optional Insightful: activity timelines and app and website productivity reporting Teramind: behavioural rules, insider-threat detection and DLP ActivTrak: workload and productivity trends rather than individual proof of work Time Doctor: detailed activity reports and distraction alerts DeskTime: automatic desktop capture, no timer to remember Connecteam: mobile clock-ins, shift scheduling and attendance Traqq: timesheets, projects and invoicing with no screenshots and no activity scores Monitask: screenshots included in the entry paid plan rather than as an add-on Jibble: free GPS attendance with kiosk and facial recognition |

## **Why look for a Hubstaff alternative in 2026?**

What makes Hubstaff unique is the combination of **time tracking**, **activity tracking** (complete with **screenshots** and website/app and location activity), and **GPS tracking**. While this might be a good option for a management style that focuses on keeping very **detailed logs of employee activities**, there are many reasons to seek an alternative.

- **Pricing:****Hubstaff no longer offers a free plan**, although it has a 14-day trial. Starter begins at $4.99/user/month with annual billing, and Starter, Grow, and Team all require at least two seats. Even if you only need one seat, the minimum Starter cost is $9.98/month, billed annually.
- **Paid extras:** Insights (productivity scoring), higher screenshot capture, location tracking, and extended data retention all bump up the cost.
- **Activity scoring:** You can’t score productivity just based on keyboard and mouse activity. Product scoring isn’t always relevant to employees whose jobs consist of planning, reading, and meeting.
- **Employee preferences:** Some employees might not want or need constant screenshots as part of their time tracking and productivity scoring.

| Billing and support: Hubstaff had a Trustpilot rating of just 1.9/5 from 495 reviews as of October 20, 2026. Several reviewers reported disputes over billing charges and refunds, along with frustrating experiences with customer support. |

##### No two-seat minimum

TimeCamp's free plan covers unlimited users and includes automatic time tracking, so you can start without paying per seat.

## **TimeCamp**

TimeCamp allows you to easily **track billable hours and projects and see your business profitability**, all without overemphasizing the need for employee monitoring like Hubstaff.

![a screenshot of hero section of timecamp homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/timecamp-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)TimeCamp puts project profitability front and center, promising AI-powered time records, automated approvals, and deep reporting, with no credit card needed to start. Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

TimeCamp is extremely flexible for tracking. You can set it to **[track time automatically](https://www.timecamp.com/time-tracking/automatic-time-tracking/)
or manually**, and you can even set up [project budgets](https://www.timecamp.com/time-tracking/billing/)
and client invoicing. The free plan even includes unlimited users and GPS location tracking. TimeCamp even offers a free kiosk add-on for shared devices. This add-on includes a four-digit PIN lock and optional photo capture.

Screenshots are optional, off by default, and available on the Ultimate plan through the desktop app. Recording detailed computer activity is also optional. TimeCamp can use keywords to automatically assign time to projects without storing a detailed history of computer activity.

TimeCamp allows users to track time to projects and then pull project time to an invoice. The rules that help determine project time based on application, window, and web name need to be manually added. Its [invoicing tool](https://www.timecamp.com/time-tracking/invoicing/)
can then pull tracked project hours into an invoice, with options to choose the billing period and group time entries.

**Pricing:** The free plan from TimeCamp allows unlimited users and includes automatic time tracking with GPS location tracking. The Starter plan, at $3.99/user/month (billed annually) and $39.90/month for 10 users, adds invoicing.

**Platforms:** Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.

**Ratings:** G2 4.7/5 (392 reviews); Capterra 4.7/5 (600 reviews).

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| Free unlimited-user plan; automatic tracking; GPS; billing and profitability features | Less detailed activity analytics; no built-in payroll; geofencing and kiosk plan restrictions |

**Plan limits:**Billable time requires Premium, while billable rates and screenshots require Ultimate. Geofencing and the built-in Time Clock Kiosk are listed under Enterprise, although a separate kiosk add-on is available free through TimeCamp’s marketplace.

**User reviews:**

> *This has improved my time tracking and increased my billable hours by about 20%.*
>
> **Jenna M.**, G2, September 2, 2026

> *…solid time transparency and billing integrity.*
>
> **Dominic Y.**, Capterra, November 11, 2025

For a closer comparison, see [TimeCamp vs Hubstaff](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/timecamp-vs-hubstaff/)
.

## **Insightful (formerly Workpuls)**

Insightful can also be a good alternative to Hubstaff for teams interested in more [detailed workforce analytics](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/what-is-insightful/)
. It automatically tracks employee activity and organizes the information into reports covering work hours, application usage, and productivity.

![a screenshot of hero section of insightful homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/insightful-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)Insightful sells itself as a work data platform: its hero maps a team’s workflow step by step and flags the bottleneck where 31 minutes go to manual data entry. Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

I found Insightful’s initial setup more complicated than expected. I also ran into a permissions error when trying to access the employee dashboard. The dashboard wasn’t particularly intuitive either, and I spent quite a bit of time clicking around trying to figure out where things were and what I needed to do.

Reports allow managers to gain insight into employee work patterns, but Insightful is an employee monitoring software. Compared to Hubstaff, it may feel just as intrusive to employees.

**Pricing:** Workforce Analytics starts at $8/user/month, billed annually (80/month for 10 employees, or $960 annually).

**Platforms:** Web, Windows, macOS, Linux.

**Ratings:** **Ratings:** G2 4.6/5 (463 reviews); Capterra 4.8/5 (253 reviews)

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| Detailed productivity analytics; automatic tracking; workload reporting | Setup can take time; extensive activity tracking; advanced capture features cost extra |

**Plan limits:** On-demand screenshots, increased screenshot frequency, and screen recording require additional payments.

**User reviews:**

> *The biggest benefit for us is the transparent, automated reporting on daily application and website usage.*
>
> **Ahmet T.**, G2, September 25, 2026

> *…a much-needed bridge between raw activity data and actionable management strategies.*
>
> **Zamir C.**, Capterra, May 8, 2026

## **Teramind**

Teramind offers time tracking, activity monitoring, behavioral rules, and security investigations. Insider threat detection and data loss prevention (DLP) features are available at higher tiers and include controls to help prevent unauthorized data transfers.

![a screenshot of hero section of teramind homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/teramind-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)Teramind leaves no doubt about its focus. “User activity. Insider risk. One platform.” sits next to a dashboard that ranks risky users alongside hours worked and idle time. Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

Its customizable dashboards bring monitoring, productivity, and security information together. Managers can use drag-and-drop widgets to track application usage, view security alerts, and identify risky users or activities. Widgets can also be filtered by employee or department.

| I think Teramind would be excessive for a small business that just needs to track employee hours. Its extensive security and monitoring features add complexity that many smaller teams probably don’t need. |
| --- |

**Pricing:** Teramind Starter costs approximately $14 per user/month when billed annually. All standard plans have a five-seat minimum, bringing the starting cost to around $69/month. For a team of 10, that’s approximately $139/month, or $1,663 annually, paid upfront. Monthly billing is also available at a higher rate.

**Platforms:** Web administration, Windows, macOS; cloud and on-premises deployment.

**Ratings:** G2 4.6/5 (183); Capterra 4.7/5 (107).

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| Detailed activity evidence; insider-risk tools; security controls | More complex administration; higher-tier costs; substantial privacy considerations |

**Plan limits:** Comprehensive user activity monitoring requires UAM, while DLP and automated data protection features and controls are available at higher tiers.

**User reviews:**

> *Its ability to prevent data leaks and detect unusual behavior in real time is key.*
>
> **Moises G.**, G2, July 15, 2026

> *…monitoring and risk management, as those features can prevent data incidents or potential fraudulent activities.*
>
> **Rolands B.**, Capterra, July 24, 2026

## **ActivTrak**

ActivTrak is best for identifying larger trends and issues about how work is managed as a whole, and can be especially useful in spotting bottlenecks and issues within a team.

![a screenshot of hero section of activtrak homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/activtrak-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)ActivTrak now pitches “work intelligence for the AI era,” with an activity dashboard that labels each team as under, at, or over capacity. Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

While ActivTrak uses computer activity to build a report on an employee’s workday, it can be used to identify issues with processes and [changes in productivity](https://www.timecamp.com/time-tracking/productivity-tracking/)
. It requires some analysis and interpretation. Unlike Hubstaff, ActivTrak provides a free, although limited, version for small teams.

I’d be careful about relying too heavily on ActivTrak’s productivity categories. Someone could spend hours doing useful research and still have that time classified as unproductive. Those reports need some human interpretation.

**Pricing:** ActivTrak offers a permanent free version for up to three users. Pricing for the paid plans starts at $10/user/month ($100/month for 10 users).

**Platforms:** It is available for web, Windows, and Mac OS.

**Ratings:** G2 4.3/5 (342); Capterra 4.5/5 (591).

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| Workload and productivity analytics; permanent free tier; less emphasis on screenshots | Advanced tiers cost more; limited billing functionality; productivity categories require context |

**Plan limits:** Screenshots require the Screen Details add-on, while advanced workforce management reports need higher plans.

**User reviews:**

> *Being able to ensure accountability without micromanaging is really the best aspect of ActivTrak.*
>
> **Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad**, G2, April 23, 2026

> *…more informed, data-driven conversations with our team.*
>
> **Derek D.**, Capterra, April 20, 2026

## **Time Doctor**

Time Doctor is similar to Hubstaff, offering a range of features that track productivity, timers, and distractions, as well as providing reports and reminders to users.

![a screenshot of hero section of time doctor homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/timedoctor-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)Time Doctor speaks to leaders of distributed teams with “See the work. Trust the numbers.” and cards that flag burnout risk and rank people by productive time. Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

| Time Doctor’s distraction alerts are one feature I’d be cautious about. They notify employees when they spend too long on websites or apps classified as unrelated to work, but I can see that getting frustrating for someone whose job involves a lot of reading or research. |
| --- |

Time Doctor’s Web & App Usage report shows time spent on individual sites and apps, labeling them as productive, unproductive, or neutral. Distraction alerts appear as pop-ups when employees visit sites flagged as unproductive, although managers can change those classifications.

**Pricing:** Basic starts at $6.67/user/month/billed annually ($66.70/month for 10 users).

**Platforms:** Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.

**Ratings:** G2 4.4/5 (498); Capterra 4.5/5 (548).

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| Screenshots and activity reports; distraction alerts; detailed timesheets | No permanent free plan; reminders can interrupt work; advanced reporting costs more |

**Plan limits:** Website and app usage reports require Standard. Real-time notifications require Standard. Productivity ratings require Standard. Video screen recording requires Premium.

**User reviews:**

> *One of the biggest strengths of Time Doctor is its real-time visibility into user activity and time usage.*
>
> **Ben G.**, G2, May 10, 2026

> *Time Doctor offers a very simple tool for analyzing time data, enabling targeted project monitoring.*
>
> **Gianna D.**, Capterra, August 5, 2026

## **DeskTime**

DeskTime largely eliminates the need to manually track time by using a computer application that begins tracking when the user starts to use the computer.

![a screenshot of hero section of desktime homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/desktime-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)DeskTime leads with fully automatic tracking, promising in-office visibility into a remote team’s hours, apps, and projects “without the constant check-ins.” Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

The app automatically categorizes applications and websites as productive, unproductive, or neutral. Integrations with calendar apps can account for productive time. DeskTime automatically records time spent in each application as you switch between them, showing the activity in a daily timeline. With [Google Calendar](https://www.timecamp.com/integrations/google-calendar-time-tracking/)
connected, meetings away from the computer can also be recorded as productive time rather than inactivity.

I can see the appeal for teams that are tired of manually starting and stopping timers throughout the day. I wouldn’t rely too heavily on DeskTime’s productivity labels, though, without checking whether the applications and websites have been categorized correctly.

**Pricing:** Pro starts at $6.42/user/month, billed annually ($64.20/month for 10 users).

**Platforms:** Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.

**Ratings:** G2 4.5/5 (400); Capterra 4.5/5 (526).

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| Automatic desktop tracking; productivity categories; calendar integration | No permanent free plan currently listed; screenshots cost more; classifications may be misleading |

**Plan limits:** Screenshots, API access, and several integrations require Premium, starting at $9.17/user/month.

**User reviews:**

> *…you can add integrations, such as Google Calendar, to synchronize your meetings with the time tracker at work.*
>
> **César M.**, G2, April 28, 2026

> *DeskTime automates time tracking to determine hourly rate spend offline and online.*
>
> **John O.**, Capterra, January 27, 2025

## **Connecteam**

Connecteam offers a different focus from other work apps, as it targets employees who work away from a desktop computer. It combines some features of desk apps like scheduling and focuses on team management and attendance.

![a screenshot of hero section of connecteam homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/connecteam-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)Connecteam’s hero is built around deskless workers, from healthcare staff to construction crews, and bundles scheduling, time tracking, communication, and HR into one app. Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

Employees can clock in and out through the app, and managers can create and edit shift schedules and assign tasks to employees. This app is useful for businesses that have mobile or retail employees or employees working at different locations. For additional management features, users can access hubs focused on communication and documents, as well as HR features.

I found Connecteam very easy to use from the start. Adding myself to the schedule was straightforward, and I appreciated the short instructional videos available throughout the setup. The color-coded calendar was particularly helpful for keeping track of shifts across different locations, and I liked how well everything was organized.

Certain advanced features like [geofencing](https://www.timecamp.com/time-tracking/geofencing/)
and controls for scheduling require more expensive plans. Also, communications and HR features are sold separately.

**Pricing:** Free for up to 10 users. Operations Basic starts at $29/month for the first 30 users, billed annually ($29/month for a 10-user team).

**Platforms:** Web, iOS, Android.

**Ratings:** G2 4.6/5 (3,506); Capterra 4.6/5 (5,318).

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| Mobile attendance; scheduling; team communication options; useful free plan | Separate hubs affect pricing; limited desktop analytics; advanced location features cost more |

**Plan limits:** Advanced geofencing and scheduling controls require higher Operations plans. Communications and HR have separate paid subscriptions.

**User reviews:**

> *I use Connecteam for remote employee management with its geofenced time clock, improving scheduling and team communication.*
>
> **Alison M.**, G2, December 1, 2025

> *…manage scheduling, communication, and daily operations all in one place.*
>
> **Julia C.**, Capterra, April 15, 2026

## **Traqq**

Traqq doesn’t capture screenshots or assign activity scores. Instead, it focuses on timesheets, projects, [expenses](https://www.timecamp.com/time-tracking/expenses/)
, billing, and invoicing. Agencies can track client hours without capturing screenshots of their employees.

![a screenshot of hero section of traqq homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/traqq-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)Traqq positions itself against monitoring-heavy trackers, promising team and project visibility “without surveillance” and a free trial with no credit card. Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

It doesn’t offer Hubstaff-like proof of work, so some managers might find it lacking.

Time tracking is easy to set up. Users can start a timer, select a project, add a task description, and mark the entry as billable or non-billable. They can also add or correct time entries manually. Traqq automatically groups entries for the same task in the time log and uses tracked hours to populate timesheets.

The reporting tools offer Summary, Weekly, and Detailed views. Managers can filter results by project, client, employee, or date range to review billable hours, costs, and revenue.

**Pricing:** **Pricing:** Free for up to three users and one project. Plus costs $4/user/month ($40/month for 10 users), with a 15% discount for annual billing. Plus includes unlimited projects and expense tracking, but invoicing requires Business, starting at $9/user/month.

**Platforms:** Web, Windows, macOS, browser extension.

**Ratings:** G2 4.8/5 (123); Capterra 4.9/5 (111).

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| No screenshots or activity scoring; affordable plans; billing features | Limited free projects; no visual proof of work; no dedicated mobile app |

**Plan limits:** Unlimited projects and client management are in Plus. Larger teams would need the Business plan.

**User reviews:**

> *It works great both for creative and tech teams in our company because it’s easy to use and doesn’t feel intrusive.*
>
> **Kazi M.**, G2, May 7, 2026

> *…easy with the start/stop button.*
>
> **Marija M.**, Capterra, March 18, 2026

##### Screenshots stay optional

In TimeCamp, screenshots are off by default, and keyword rules can assign time to projects without storing detailed activity history.

[Try it free](https://app.timecamp.com/auth/register)

## **Monitask**

Teams looking for a simple solution to [capture time and screenshots together](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/employee-monitoring-software-screenshots-demanding/)
without investing in a large workforce analytics solution may find Monitask appealing.

![a screenshot of hero section of monitask homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/monitask-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)Monitask makes no secret of what it is: “Employee Monitoring Software” that tracks computer activity, screenshots, and productivity for office and remote teams. Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

Employees use a desktop app to record working hours. Management reviews screenshots and timesheets, and project reports. Monitask’s Pro plan includes screenshot capturing, unlike some competitors that charge extra for the feature.

| Monitask is not necessarily cheaper than Hubstaff’s Starter plan, and any potential savings depend on the features and add-ons you may purchase. |
| --- |

Monitask’s desktop timer tracks working hours and captures screenshots at intervals set by the employer. Screenshots appear in a timeline alongside activity data. Managers can blur or disable screenshots for privacy, while pausing the timer stops tracking altogether.

**Pricing:** Pro starts at $6.49/user/month, billed annually ($64.90/month for 10 users).

**Platforms:** Web, Windows, macOS, Linux.

**Ratings:** G2 4.8/5 (100); Capterra 4.8/5 (162).

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| Screenshots included in Pro; clear timesheets; project reporting | Limited integrations on Pro; short data retention; advanced reporting costs more |

**Plan limits:** Pro includes one integration and one month of data retention. Website and application reports are in the Business plan.

**User reviews:**

> *We can use it to screenshot our keyword research and site audit processes, all while maintaining our internal sensitive information.*
>
> **Jeff R.**, G2, February 15, 2026

> *The screenshot capture feature gives us a transparent view of progress without interrupting the designers or writers.*
>

## **Jibble**

Jibble is a suitable application for teams searching for a [free attendance system](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/what-is-jibble/)
that provides GPS location records and allows shared-device clock-ins.

![a screenshot of hero section of jibble homepage](https://www.timecamp.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jibble-hero-screenshot-hubstaff-alternatives-scaled.jpeg)Jibble bets on price, calling itself the highest-rated time tracking software “and it’s 100% free,” with a badge promising unlimited users forever. Author’s screenshot, October 2026.

Employees can also clock in using their mobile devices or via a kiosk, and facial recognition is available for identity verification. Jibble’s free plan, which is permanently available and supports an unlimited number of users, is a big plus for businesses with rapidly growing teams.

I liked that Jibble gave me several options for tracking time during setup, including mobile apps, a shared kiosk, desktop apps, and a web browser. I chose the browser option and was ready to start tracking in seconds, without downloading anything. My timesheet also showed individual clock-in entries and separate totals for tracked and payroll hours.

Jibble also provides desktop activity and screenshot tracking, however, its key strength is [attendance management](https://www.timecamp.com/time-tracking/attendance/)
. Organizations looking for Hubstaff-style workforce analytics must verify if Jibble meets their reporting requirements.

## **How to choose the right Hubstaff alternative?**

Start with the job you need the software to do. TimeCamp covers time tracking, billing, and profitability, while Insightful and ActivTrak provide more detailed workforce analytics. Teramind handles security investigations, and Time Doctor offers a familiar mix of timers and activity reports.

DeskTime reduces manual tracking, Connecteam supports mobile workforces, and Jibble handles attendance. Traqq avoids screenshots, while Monitask includes them in its entry subscription.

Before switching, test how each tool handles meetings, breaks, offline work, and timesheet corrections. These everyday details are easy to overlook during a product demonstration.

## **Hubstaff alternatives FAQ**

### **What are the best Hubstaff alternatives in 2026?**

Some of the more popular alternatives are TimeCamp, Insightful, Teramind, ActivTrak, Time Doctor, DeskTime, Connecteam, Traqq, Monitask, and Jibble. What alternative you choose will likely depend on why you are looking for alternatives to Hubstaff.

### **What are the best free Hubstaff alternatives?**

Jibble and TimeCamp both offer completely free plans. Traqq and ActivTrak both offer free plans for teams of up to three users. Connecteam offers a free plan for teams of up to 10 users. The free plans all vary in terms of user and location tracking and reporting.

### **Does Hubstaff have a free plan?**

No, but it does have a 14-day free trial. Additionally, the Starter, Grow, and Team plans all require at least 2 users, driving the cost up.

### **What are some affordable Hubstaff alternatives?**

Traqq starts at $4/user/month, while TimeCamp’s Starter plan costs $3.99/user/month with annual billing. Both offer permanent free options. Monitask is another possibility if screenshots are essential, but compare equivalent paid features and add-ons rather than relying on the headline subscription price.

### **Which Hubstaff alternatives offer less employee monitoring?**

Traqq doesn’t capture screenshots or calculate activity scores. TimeCamp offers optional screenshots on its Ultimate plan, but they’re off by default and require the desktop app. Detailed computer activity recording is also optional. ActivTrak focuses on productivity trends but still tracks computer usage, while Jibble emphasizes attendance and offers optional desktop activity tracking.

### **Which Hubstaff alternative offers deeper workforce analytics?**

ActivTrak focuses more on productivity and workload trends, while Insightful provides more detailed reports on employees and activities. Teramind has tools more geared toward preventing insider threat and data loss.

### **Is there an open-source Hubstaff alternative?**

Kimai is an open-source, self-hosted time tracker. It is more project-focused and less employee-workforce focused; it doesn’t provide screenshots, activity scoring, or GPS attendance.

##### Bill hours, not screenshots

TimeCamp turns tracked project time into invoices on the Starter plan, from $3.99/user/month billed annually.
