## What Does It Mean to Be a Leader?

There are as many definitions of leadership as many minds. But what does it really mean to be a leader? There is no simple answer to this question. There are no courses that teach how to become a leader. Universities don’t offer lectures on leadership. It’s a position to which you have to endeavor yourself. It’s a goal which you have to pursue on your own because nobody will tell you how to do it. There is no title that will define you as a leader.

Being a leader is a difficult task which requires sacrifice, patience, and lots of courage. There are many features which define a good leader and one of them is persistence.

### Persistence in Leadership

There are many things which constitute a good leader. A person who guides cannot lack any of them because they all come down to **persistence**.

Persistence in leadership means hard work because you can’t achieve positive outcomes without it. Positive outcomes are connected with **the proper treatment of the entire team**. If you can do that, everything will work out perfectly. But in order to have a good team, which will appreciate the things you do for them, you have to **find the right people**. You need to be compassionate, have the **emotional intelligence** on a high level, and be open to people’s needs. This also requires involvement and the will to always **improve the outcomes**. All these traits brought together make up persistence – an effort in pursuing a career of a good leader.

Without persistence in leadership, the whole idea loses its significance. A leader who does not include this trait in his work, will not achieve success.

### Challenges Leaders Meet

According to Mark Sanborn, an expert in the field of leadership, there are four types of challenges that leaders meet in their work:

1. **To be respected and liked** There will always be someone who doesn’t like you as a leader. Some may even try to pull the rug from under your feet and make you feel unworthy. A leader also needs to choose and these choices not always suit the employees.
2. **Balancing the needs of the organization and needs of people**No success can be achieved if both the needs are not taken into account. A good, persistent leader is able to balance the needs of people and the needs of the company. If there is no choice, a leader will choose the company’s needs and employees should be able to understand it.
3. **Staying motivated**Being a leader is tough. And when things don’t work as planned, it’s easy to lose motivation. But after the rain comes the sun. Things will eventually work out if a leader is persistent. You also need to stay faithful to your purpose, to what you believe in and always keep fighting with the obstacles.
4. **Staying focused**Lots of work and people to manage may cause a headache. When too much is happening you may not know what to put your hands into. If you have your goals set up straight, it will be easy to keep your finger on the pulse.

In work of a Project Manager, there are many difficulties. No wonder it’s not a job for everyone. It can be hard, challenging, and when things don’t go our way, we may want to give up. A project manager, as every other person, needs inspiration to keep going, especially in difficult times, when projects don’t work […]

In today’s work setting, it’s more important than ever to prioritize tasks. Constant demands, notifications, disruptions, and short deadlines can easily create an illusion of productivity—an environment in which you do all the tasks at once (which is impossible). But as the saying goes, “jack-of-all-trades, master of none.” Effective professionals don’t do more—they do fewer […]
