You can also choose to hide the icon from the tray in stealth mode. Employees using personal computers will always see the icon and must clock in via the desktop app to begin tracking.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">Install the agent. <\/span><\/strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">It works on Windows, macOS, and Linux and takes only a few minutes to install. I was only tracking a few employees during my test run, so my dashboards were relatively tame. Even so, <\/span><strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">it took me a good hour to set the tracking parameters <\/span><\/strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">(i.e., what\u2019s being tracked and how often) and get everything running.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-color=\"transparent\">If you\u2019re using an activity tracker for the first time (or need to install the agent on hundreds of computers), prepare in advance so everything\u2019s ready to go on the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-color=\"transparent\">What does Insightful do well, and where does it fall short?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-color=\"transparent\">Once set up, Insightful gives managers access to <\/span><strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">insights that are hard to obtain without close monitoring<\/span><\/strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">. Which employees are most productive, and which apps do they use the most? Are there any specific apps\/websites slowing employees down?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-color=\"transparent\">For example, if a software engineer spends two hours a day in Gmail (and I see a similar pattern across the board), I\u2019d notify my managers and address the issue. If workflow bottlenecks and other productivity hiccups are slowing things down, Insightful can help you uncover them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-color=\"transparent\">Insightful\u2019s biggest strength is how quickly <\/span><strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">it converts employee activity into actionable data insights<\/span><\/strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">. I could see team activity by app and by user within a day. I also had the option to closely monitor performance in real time. That\u2019s powerful stuff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-color=\"transparent\">The main issue with Insightful is that it offers quite a few add-ons, a few of which are essential for certain teams (e.g., more frequent screen captures and screen recording). On personal computers, employees need to clock in from the agent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-color=\"transparent\">On the Workflow Optimization plan and up, it <\/span><strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">automatically maps<\/span><\/strong> <strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">tracked time<\/span><\/strong><span data-color=\"transparent\"> to projects or tasks. You can, of course, create custom mappings by group or employee, and you can define what \u201cidle\u201d means (two minutes without any activity by default).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-color=\"transparent\">I really like how easy Insightful makes it to monitor employee productivity. By default, <\/span><strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">Insightful will create labels for you<\/span><\/strong><span data-color=\"transparent\">. During my test run, it labeled Google Docs and Claude as productive, leaving YouTube and LinkedIn as unlabeled.
