The main rule of using our Excel Template is to work together every day. The idea is really simple - the exchange of information and ideas on a regular basis in order to improve the product or software development. The goal of this tools is to answer the question: How agile am I?
This tool is designed to assist in this regular process. You can evaluate your own agile process, or compare your process as it sits with a prior situation or a perceived situation.
To use the Excel Template to the fullest, you will need a story - a card sized story which characterizes how the project worked out.
There are 11 principles in the Agile Alliance and in order to use them properly in our Excel Template, every member of your team should have them printed out. For each principle, the team gets together and discusses how well the story matches the principle. Rating works on a scale of 1-5.
Use 1 if you feel that your process is antithetical to the principle, and 5 if you feel that your process is a shining example that you want to share with others.
In the template you will also see a column marked Weights. The weights are on a scale of 1-5. If you want to compare your results with other folks, you need to make sure that you and the other team are using the same weights. Use the weight of 5 only once. Use the weight of 4 only once or twice. The rest of the weights should be 3 or less. Use 1 or 2 in a similar proportion to the weights of four and five.

The sheet allows the comparison of three measurements. You can use these to measure over time (baseline, cycle 1, cycle 2) or to compare with other teams, other projects, etc. At the bottom of the row of measurements, you will see the maximum score.

The measurements from your process will show to the right, along with a percentage of the maximum score. Your 'Agility Factor' is that percentage.
